Summary
It was all Dick's fault. His fault. Not Jason's. Not Bruce's. His. He was too weak and too distracted and too stupid. Careless. All he wanted was to meet Jason's mother alone, to judge her character. He didn't expect this to happen.
Lying against the cold floor of the warehouse he thought he didn't deserve to be Nightwing. This was not what uncle Clark’s hero was. He certainly was no failure.
(Or: In Ethiopia, Dick gets Jason’s permission to meet Sheila alone. It obviously goes terribly wrong.)

Alfred’s indiscrete smirk grows, and he begins clearing away the dish Dick left behind. “No, I believe that is simply Master Dick showing affection.” He glances at Bruce from the side as he turns towards the sink. “Families share kisses in America as well, especially when children are young. Your mother was particularly fond of giving your young self kisses on the forehead.”
Bruce braces a hand on the counter, slumping into it. “Family,” he echoes in a whisper.

It's rare when Batman lets him patrol on his own. He understands why, especially after what happened to his predecessor, but doesn't mean that he won't take advantage of the fact that tonight Batman and Corvid are elsewhere. Robin is thirteen. He's supposed to do dumb stuff like street racing random bikers through Gotham. Just his luck (bad, obviously) that the Red Helmet Guy had something a more sinister planned than a little racing.
