Work Header

the day is gone, and all its sweets are gone!

Summary:

“Order 3240! One glazed scone and sliced sourdough bread!” Izuku called out, pushing out the customer’s food through the glass window. The customer, smiling, came up to the window and took the food, shouting out a “thank you!” as they left.

Or, a day in the life of Midoriya Izuku, a psychology college student who's also semi-managing a bakery.

Work Text:

“Order 3240! One glazed scone and sliced sourdough bread!” Izuku called out, pushing out the customer’s food through the glass window. The customer, smiling, came up to the window and took the food, shouting out a “thank you!” as they left.

That was Izuku’s favorite part of working in the bakery: the customers. Although some of them were a little mean, seeing them cheer up when they received their items brightened Izuku’s day.

He’d been working in the bakery for about 3 months, ever since he joined college, realized that his bills were too high, and, most importantly, got fired from his old job. He didn’t sulk over losing that so-called “opportunity” though; his manager wasn’t the best anyway.

He sighed as he cleaned the espresso machine. How does it get dirty so fast? He swore it was clean yesterday.

After wiping down the coffee machine for the fifteenth time this week , he checked his phone, hoping a message would get him out of this torture.

Kacchan <3<3<3

Kacchan: deku when is your shift over? The extras invited us to some random house party or whatever

It ends in 20 minutes! And don’t call your friends extras kacchan, that’s mean! :( : deku

Kacchan : yeah yeah, I won't. I’ll pick you up then

Love you Kacchan <3 : deku

Kacchan: Love you too

Izuku smiled into his phone.

Kacchan, or Bakugou Katsuki, was Izuku’s boyfriend! They were childhood friends who had a little rough patch in middle school, but they made up soon after that! They started dating in the second year of high school, after Kacchan asked him out while they were at this exact bakery. Izuku had gasped before, obviously, saying yes; how could he not? He'd been "pining" (as Ochako would say) after Kacchan for his entire life!

At first, when Izuku introduced Kacchan to his friends, they were a little shocked at how opposite the two were. In their eyes, Izuku was kind and sweet while Katsuki was brash and angry . But, after spending some time with the couple, they realized that they fit together like puzzle pieces. They knew each other, deeply

“Izuku! Wanna play cards, it’s a slow day at the bakery anyway!’ Ochako, his best friend, yelled from the break room, holding up a deck of cards. He nodded.

Ochako Uraraka, commonly known as ‘Chako by Izuku, was one of his closest friends. They had met at the beginning of college, and ever since then, become inseparable. Coincidentally, they both also had the same major: Psychology. Additionally, Izuku minored in English, while Ochako minored in Communications.

She, along with Izuku, had started working in the bakery to pay for her college bills. Her boyfriend, Tenya Iida, had offered to pay off the bills for her, as he came from a rich (like loaded ) family.

Upon hearing this, Ochako vehemently refused, stating that Iida was too kind and she needed working experience later on. When Izuku jokingly (key word) offered to have Iida pay for his college tuition and apartment bills, Ochako slapped him on the back of his head (“ My boyfriend isn’t that rich, Izuku!” “Chako, I was joking!” “No, no, Midoriya, I can pay it if you want!” “Babe!’)

Izuku silently closed the white break room doors, careful not to scare the pre-existing customers. Right on the table, he saw Uraraka with a classic deck of cards, smiling as she took a sip of her iced coffee. “Sit down!”

“Ok, ok!” He hurried, quickly sitting on the loose wooden chairs ( Ouch. We need to fix this ).

“So here are the rules: we both get 8 cards, each trying to collect a classic set. Once one of us does, both of us try to grab a spoon. Without a spoon, you get a letter. If one of us spells “S-P-O-O-N”, we’re out! The last player standing wins! This is usually played with more people, but Shouto isn’t here today.” Ochako expertly instructed. What? “You get it, right, Izuku?” She asked. Izuku nodded. 'I’ll figure out the rules as I play! '

“S-P-O-O! One more chance, Izuku!” Uraraka squealed. It had only been 10 minutes, and Izuku was struggling , to say the least.

“It’s not fair!! You’ve been playing this game for like all your life, it’s an unfair advantage!” Midoriya whined, hitting his head on the desk in defeat.

“Okay, let’s raise the stakes then! If one of us wins the next round, they win the game!” Uraraka smirked, reshuffling the cards.

Izuku looked at his cards. I already have a set! I just need 2 more cards and I’ll win!

5 minutes go by, and Izuku’s just one card away: an Ace of Spades. He looks at Ochako, who is still furiously slapping away the cards after glancing at them. He’s going to win!

“Excuse me!” A customer yells, ringing the ‘assistance needed’ bell numerous times. The pair jumps, each dropping their cards on the floor.

“Oh my god, why do we work here ?!!” Izuku irritably got up, opening the break room doors to service the new customer.

“How may we help you?” He smiled robotically, his jaw clenched.

The man huffed, reciting his order like a drill sergeant.

Ochako came out of the break room, preparing the grub with a slight frown on her face. After delivering the man his food, he sped away, much to the delight of the employees.

“God, does anybody have any manners? I swear, every person should work in customer service at least once, then they’ll know what it’s like!” Uraraka sulked, flipping the establishment’s neon open sign, displaying that the place was closed.

Midoriya bobbed his head in agreement as he took out the cleaning supplies. At least I have Kacchan!
