Steb shot awake in bed, panting like a dog.
Ever since the big battle against Ambessa and her army, he'd been plagued with nightmares of the friends lost and the blood shed.
He couldn't seem to escape these images of violence, which haunted him like a ghost.
Within mere seconds, though, Scar was in front of him, holding him in a tight, reassuring hug and whispering reassurances into his ear.
"You're safe" the Chirean said softly, rubbing his clawed hand in a soothing motion along the ex-enforcer's back. "The battle is over. Everything's okay now"
Steb allowed himself to cry into Scar's chest, leaning into the gentle touch from his partner as he tried to process the emotions brought up from his nightmare.
Eventually, his breathing slowed and his body began to relax, panic giving way to a profound sense of exhaustion.
"Let's get you back to sleep, sweetheart" Scar said gently as he helped Steb back into the lying position, allowing the man to curl against him and be as clingy as he wanted.
Steb had no more nightmares that night.
