native english speaker, and i watched this with english sub, and dub, and honestly, it did not make sence. the closest that i could think of that sounded natural would be for the sentance to be somehting like, "nothing happened, got it?" otherwise they both sound wrond.

Someone explained to me (in french) that the literal meaning of the sentence in japanese means "There was nothing". It's not a question, he doesn't ask for confirmation, he just states that nothing happened, but for me it still sounds a bit weird all on its own.
I'm a bit relieved to know that it does sound weird even for native english speaker though, I'm not crazy lol. In french, they actually did a good job (Rien. Rien du tout. = Nothing. Nothing at all.) because the repetition is a way to emphaze something and it's short enough to keep up with the original japanese sentence.
Also, I think the anime dub had to follow the animation of Zoro talking, they couldn't really put too many words and still had to keep the meaning so they chose something short.
As for the sub, I remember that there was a lot of discussions around what he said, mostly because there was a lot of fansub teams (and for One Piece, they quickly stopped relying on english fansub teams and directly translated by hear/from japanese scans, but it was still a big moment and every team kind of looked at the other languages to check if they missed something important in their translation).
