As for Frank, I actually started writing this story way before the TV series aired, and I didn’t get around to watching the show until after I was finished with Part II. I like what they did with Frank and Bill in the TV show though, so I do concede that it would have been much more fulfilling if I got to give them the happy retirement they deserved!
I could have easily reconciled Frank’s desire for human connection/being part of a community with Bill finally accepting to leave Lincoln, and brought them to Jackson to join our main cast. What was written can’t be unwritten though, but perhaps in a spin-off I have on the backburner there will be a what-if edition focusing on Tess and Joel’s smuggler days which heavily features Bill and Frank. That is likely the next project for when I finish this series, assuming I still have the inspiration juices for the Last of Us.
