I'm glad you enjoyed the Talwyn smuggler twist! I wanted to give her character a different edge in this timeline while still maintaining her core traits. She will not be the last character to be changed due to the lombaxes' existence in the universe.
The parallels between the school electives and Ratchet's commando training from the second game was intentional - as those skills helped to keep him alive throughout his adventures. (And yes, even origami taught him to focus with patience and precision).
I'm also glad that you're enjoying Dex's character! I'm trying to write him as an asset that brings in humor and support without him becoming an annoyance or a hindrance to Ratchet.
Writing Mirabelle has been tricky as she is a blank canvas in the original lore. But I knew I wanted to create a character who could match Kaden's wit and stand her ground without the relationship feeling unbalanced, or Kaden being constantly henpecked for his antics - which is many.
