I know exactly what you mean about the old hollywood vibes with the dialogue even though I wasn't thinking about it at the time. I just enjoy a playful back and forth with these two that I feel like plays into their shared sense of humour well. For me, dialogue is everything even for pwp so I'm glad you found their voices believable and compelling!
The secrecy issue is also something that I have enjoyed both seriously and comedically in other fics, but since I didn't want to do a modern times au for these two, it felt more natural to alude to it as a real problem and fear, especially for someone like Charles who already feels so othered.
I'm also soooo glad you like Stranger! I actually called the shire that in my first playthrough because I read the song of ice and fire book series and the hound was one of my favourite characters and he had an enormous black horse that he called Stranger and I always really liked that name. I realised playing RDR2 that it was also funny because every time I approached him it was like doing a stranger mission lol, so to me that big shire is always Stranger.
This was my first time writing M/M smut in such a loooong time and my first time posting it here, so I'm really glad the dynamics worked for you and that it was a fun scene to read as far as the continual evolution of their power dynamics and things like that.
