thank you friend 🖤 with each one of these ficlets functioning as another step closer to retirement, it's been a fun exercise to see how I can capture that inevitability in different ways. there's room for humor, certainly — the 18.04 ficlet essentially says 'look at the levity and domesticity emily will get every day after retiring!' — but there is also a sense of wearing down in that aforementioned inevitability. it's both something she chooses and something that happens to her/them, something she was always bound to grab onto but also a place in which her hand is forced.
