Chapter 1: stolen hearts and fragile promises

Chapter Text

Theo stared at the ice-cold water. The rotten wood of the bridge familiar to his hands. He stared and stared and waited for her. “Theeeoooo”, there she was, a shell of a person, her hair plastered to her forehead, her skin pale and marred with dirt and dried blood, and her chest torn apart, the ribs broken showing an empty void where her heart should be.

“ You don’t need it anymore Theo, you have nothing, no one, why are you holding on? Let go, Theo, give me my heart back, give it back!”

Her words only solidified a decision Theo had already made. He did have nothing. Living in his beat-up truck, cast aside by the pack. He was alone and he was tired. Tired of waking up in the middle of the night, his no Tara’s heart pounding in his chest he was tired of remembering every time Tara tore her heart out of his chest in hell, remembering every time the dread doctors tore into him, experimenting, torturing him until he was nothing but a puppet on a string that they used for their dirty work, he hated himself for what he had become, hated the memory of tearing people apart with his claws, for killing his sister, for being who he is. He hated it. He was tired. Tara was right he did not have anything to live for.

Theo Raeken’s time was up and he was ready to leave it all behind. He climbed onto the railing still staring at the freezing water and the image of his dead sister taunting him begging him for her heart back. He stared at the water, he didn’t cry, he didn’t want to remember. This was his way out, this was what he deserved, Tara needed her heart back and so he took a deep breath, his last breath before he stepped off the railing.

Water filled his lungs and he let it in. He looked up at the sunlight filtering through the surface of the water with blurry vision as his lungs starved for oxygen. He felt calmer than he had in years.

Hello Tara

Hello Theo, welcome home

He closed his eyes. Theo Raeken was dead.
