Popcorn fics

Summary:

Fics to read when you're filling the time before your doctor's appointment, when you're sneakily reading at a boring family dinner, when you don't have the attention span for something longer, when you really need to be productive but just need a quick hit of a fic to keep going, when you're loitering in the bathroom, when you're waiting for the bus...

All in the ballpark of 100 - 300 words.

Notes:

I have much less time to do much of anything recently, and I've always wanted to master the art of short fics that don't feel abruptly so or unfinished. What better way to do that than a drabble collection?

Alternative, punnier title: Tokimeki Popcorn. Although I don't think anyone else likes that Pasupare cover as much as me, or even remembers it.

These first two fics are short works from a year back or so, when I was more active on Twitter and did a little request thing for my mutuals. I don't miss having a big-ish account, but I do miss all the activity and friends on it.

These fics still hold up very well unedited, I'd say. (Hopefully that doesn't say much about whether I've improved over the years or not...)

Chapter Text

"Here, Minato-san." Misaki eased the felt toy forward, trying (and failing) to soothe her nerves. "I made this for you. Kanon-san and I were practising, and, uh… yeah. Figured it'd be a good idea to… Yeah."

Yukina stared plainly at it for a moment, presumably making a judgement.

Misaki gulped. Suspense like that was as good as murder.

"Is this…" The toy flipped in her hands. "... a cat?"

"Well… Yeah."

Another moment passed.

Misaki dared not breathe.

"... Hm."

With more tenderness than she had ever seen from her, Yukina raised Misaki's creation to level with her eyes.

"Mwah."

"Wait, hold the—" Misaki stuttered. "M-Minato-san?"

Smiling quietly, Yukina walked over and faced the cat towards Misaki.

"Mwah." The cat leant down slightly. "It likes you. As do I."

And with that same happy smile, Yukina left the room, leaving Misaki dazed and wondering.
