The Color of Her Eyes

Summary:

Soulmates come in pairs, they can't see the color of each other's eyes until they know they're soulmates.
There are technically two kinds of soulmates. The ones who are ready and open, the ones who will dive into the relationship headfirst as soon as they know.
Then there are the ones who are more hesitant. The ones who want to make sure they actually want a relationship. Those ones always fall first. It makes some degree of sense, this way no one’s heart gets broken. The other half doesn’t get to know until the hesitant one admits they’re in love.

Tim Bradford is the second kind, and he knows this because he's never seen brown until he locks eyes with his new rookie.

Notes:

I've been turning this over in my head for a week, and finally decided to just write it. No beta, so if you see any spelling or grammar mistakes lmk so I can fix them. No idea how often I'll update, sorry.
Harper is here from the beginning, we'll just pretend Bishop doesn't exist. Angela and Tim are besties, not that Tim would ever admit that. Obviously this is a Chenford fic, but it's gonna take a while, I want to build slowly. I really want to get into who Tim is, inside and out, but he's not going to give in to Lucy too quickly. I haven't decided what to do with Isabel yet.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Tim Bradford was going to die.

Lucy Chen sat on the other side of the door, pleading with him, “The vaccine is almost here!” Tim didn’t respond. He couldn’t. The man whom they had been coming to warn only 30 minutes earlier was lying dead on the floor in front of him, blood still pooling from his eyes and nose.

Tim pressed his head against the door, trying to steady his breathing. If he let Lucy know what he knew, she would feel every second of the inevitable. He gripped his pistol harder, swallowing the words he so desperately wanted to say. He would not let Lucy feel his death.
