Summary
Komatsu, a scholar and a chef, and his partner Toriko, a hunter specialized in finding gourmet artifacts, find evidence of the lost city of Hamunaptra. According to ancient writings, Hamunaptra holds the book of the dead—a text containing sacred spells and rituals, including the ancient recipes of the Great Royal Wife Froese which have been lost for nearly 4,000 years.
They quickly realize that the foremost Nitro scholars didn’t quite get everything right—or perhaps were hiding information deliberately.

“Why do you want to get there so badly?” Caitlyn asks, looking at the other woman out of the corner of her eye as she wipes down her gun, trying not to show too much interest. Vi makes a grunting sound, still picking at her nails with the edge of her knife.
“None of your damn business.”
Caitlyn huffs. “I’m paying you, so I would certainly say it is my business.”
“You’re only paying me to lead you into a death trap, princess,” Vi says, putting her feet up on the desk and almost getting mud on Caitlyn’s rifle. “Bedtime stories will cost you extra.”
On a search for a historical myth, Caitlyn and Jayce hire a mercenary off death’s row that claims to have been to the site before. But Vi’s ulterior motives, and the growing attraction between her and Caitlyn, threatens the whole expedition.

His hair was fluffy with a dusty sort of tint to the brown that reminded him of his old books. Buck wanted to run his hands through the curls.

“Evan!” He cut off Eddie. “E-Evan Buckley. It’s, uh, nice to meet you.” He said throwing his hand forward. “Eddie said you were a friend of his?”
The man seemed amused and took ahold of Buck’s hand. “Something like that,” he said, his smirk softening into a real smile. “Nice to meet you, Evan. Tommy Kinard, at your service.”
