Summary
Halbrand, heir to the throne of the Southlands, finds himself stranded in the middle of the ocean with only the old man Diarmid for a friend. That is, until they rescue Galadriel, Commander of the Northern Armies, from the bitter waters. Picked up by a Númenorean ship on its way home, the trio finds safety within the island kingdom. Galadriel will not let Halbrand forget his destiny, or avoid it.
But the Shadow is once again stirring in Middle-earth, and when they discover that Halbrand is more than he seems, Galadriel is confronted with a painful past more intimately tied to Halbrand's future than either of them could have guessed. Thrust into a destiny he never wanted, Halbrand must now choose between finding the light and touching the darkness.

Summary
Part II of my AU series, part I being 'don't you (forget about me)'. It is necessary to read that first to understand this one: modern setting with the realms of Numenor and Lindon and their monarchs standing against the machinations of Mordor and its allies.
The story's Part II picks up immediately preceding Tar-Miriel and Gil-galad's grand announcement and proceeds from there, as Elendil and Tariel navigate their new relationship personally and professionally.

Inspired by ElrondScribe's brilliant Silmarillion music school AU.
No resemblance to any actual musicians intended, considerable liberties with my representation of the RNCM. Indeterminate time-frame: a bit like the Manchester of my teens (and its often unfortunate social attitudes); in other respects more up-to-date. The Mancunian rain is entirely accurate, however, and I make no apology for that.

But suddenly, he felt it.
A warm, almost blinding light suddenly filling his senses. Making him hiss in pain, his level of agony rising until it slowly twisted itself into pleasure. A subconsciousness was now nestled against his own, he wasn’t sure of how long it has been there, nor of the time that passed before it came.
Days? Months? Years? Perhaps even centuries of nothingness. But he curiously nudged it, his liquid form almost buzzing with anticipation as he waited. And eventually, it nudged back. Curious and tentative, but almost playful in a way.
He nudged it again, reaching for it as he found himself wanting - yearning to know more. But the subconscious backed away, dissipating, leaving him alone once more. He found himself growing for contact, aching for it. For the subconscious to come back, for her to come back.
OR
Halbrand finds someone he didn’t except, someone who definitely wasn’t his first thought.

Galadriel reveled in the cold touch of dew on her skin, the icy kiss of the full moon on her face, while her voice was lost in the darkness, offering songs to the ghosts.

“It can’t go on like this.” He said, his expression dark. “You’re not just sick, Elrond. You’re fading. Mordor is killing you.”
Elrond managed to smile weakly. It was something he’d suspected, but hearing it from Adar confirmed his theory. “I’m sorry.”
Adar looked at him as if he’d lost his mind. “Why are you apologizing? I insisted that you should accompany us here.”
“It’s not your fault either.” He argued softly. “And I wanted to come with you.” It was the truth, he realized that now.
“You will leave tomorrow.” Adar’s words were simple and cold. However, Elrond knew him well enough by now to know that the coldness was a mask. A way to hide his true emotions. “Return to Lindon and take as much time as you need. Get well again. In the meantime, I will make some arrangements so that you will be able to stay here without facing this again.”
Elrond hesitated. “Adar…”
The uruk grabbed his hands. “I need you to heal, Elrond.”After Sauron is defeated, Adar proposes an alliance between elves and uruks. He marries Elrond and they go to Mordor. Only that elves can't last long in the poisoned land. So Adar sends him away, only for Elrond to run into trouble with the dwarves. ELROND x ADAR

A Man and an Elf; an unlikely pairing that brings with it judgemental eyes and inevitable tragedy. Galadriel knows this, and even still she cannot resist the cosmic bond she shares with Halbrand of the Southlands, the human with a mysterious past who saved her life. Nor can Halbrand resist the connection he shares with this unruly Elf. They are alone, cast out for their past actions, and tempted by both desire and darkness that consumes them. In her, he sees an opportunity for redemption and in him, she finds an unlikely sense of belonging. While evil forces work in the shadows to destroy that which they hold dear in Middle Earth, will their bond lead to salvation or result in their doom?
This is my take on a Second Age story in which Halbrand was just a mortal man after all, written for those who miss Human Halbrand as much as I do.
