Summary
It was over.
From the moment Bruce and Clark agreed to give it a try and start a romantic relationship, Bruce had known that the chances of it having a happy ever after were low. Still, of all the ways he imagined it ending, he never thought that it would be like this, with a trail of chaos behind them, with half of his team blaming and hating him, and with a final vote to expel him from the League.
“Superman! For the love of God! Retreat! Retreat!” It was a desperate cry, a useless attempt to save Clark from the pain he himself had confectioned. “Get out of there before it’s too late!” he pleaded, even though there was a part of him that knew it already was. “That’s why Ra’s wanted me distracted. He couldn’t risk my warning you! All the plans, the traps, the signal trackers… they were mine!”
Bruce didn’t dare think about what the silence on the other side of the comm could possibly mean. He swallowed past the rage and the nausea. “Superman… I did this to you!”
