Summary
No, it couldn’t have been a dream. Every detail was etched into his mind, every daily figure, every death they represented. The pain, the way it had felt to die, seemed as though it had just been plucked from nerves still recoiling in its absence. He felt at his chest, drew a whole, sound breath under the splay of his fingers, his stomach comfortably full, with none of famine’s claws embedded in it yet.
Yet. Was that- what was he taking those memories to be, then? Some sort of premonition? He’d never believed in such things, but their vividity absolutely refused to let him dismiss them as the byproduct of a brief doze, the random mutterings of his subconscious. Something remarkable had happened to him, and he was thousands of kilometres away from anyone who could have helped him decipher it.

Summary
When Jonathan Sims was appointed as Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, he was expecting a quiet office job involving too much filing, even with the strange statements they handle. But before he can begin, his first assignment sends him to a remote steppe village to meet his predecessor. The moment he arrives he is accused of murder and has to uncover the truth behind her supposed retirement away from the Capitol.
As if that wasn't enough, there’s a plague sweeping through town with disturbingly familiar characteristics. Hopefully he and Martin, the assistant librarian who volunteered to help him, can get to the bottom of this before they all die from this terrible corruption.

Summary
When Rubin had said Isidor Burakh’s son was bullheaded, Daniil should have known he’d meant that literally, given everything else he’s seen in this absurd town. Because a little ways behind Burakh is, indeed, a massive brown bull.

He kept to his own path, his own work, certain that the only reason that other Dankovsky in the other timeline had failed so utterly was because Burakh hadn’t been playing fair but now he is the one with the power, so how could he fail?
Very easily, apparently.

Summary
The woman in that lonely brick house by the river was a chain around the heart of Burakh’s heir. For people like her, he might choose to betray the people, the People, who needed him so desperately now. It would be sensible to cut that chain before it could pull him from his course.
But could there be another way? -

Summary
Dawn was rolling feverishly behind the clouds when Daniil first, finally strode into town. With his back and step straight despite the many miles he had walked, with a letter in his pocket promising that Simon Kain, supposed immortal and, if so, salvation of his life’s work, would grant him an audience.
So why, when a nervous early walker pointed him to the Kains’ abode, did he find its three doors closed? Locked, and why, at least according to another kindly passerby who saw him loitering by the Crucible’s rear-facing porch, would the Kains only deign to admit him, or any guest, after night had fallen? -

Summary
The sun fought, coughing, through a dank grey fog on the day he was to save the bull.
Golden rays like fingers feeling for freedom stroked at his face as he stepped from the factory workshop and locked its door behind him. It was not a day to breathe in hope and exhale joy, but it was, at least, one to walk with purpose towards something he might set right. -

Summary
Boddho and the Polyhedron: one ancient God and one barely born. When the divine force of the Sky and the warm body of the Earth cry out for the destruction of the other, their servants - Artemy Burakh and Daniil Dankovsky - set out to the Town-On-Gorkhon to enact a doctor's justice. Haruspex and Bachelor find instead an unexpected kinship in the liminal space between, and in facing the rise of a mysterious sickness. The stage is set, the actors prepared, and a dark and devastating force waits, patiently, in the wings.

Summary
The letter from the Powers That Be laid neatly folded on his desk, congratulating him on his spectacular success in curbing the spread of the Sand Plague in the Town and granting their blessing not only for him to continue his research, but to open Thanatica again, with considerable resources and funding at his disposal.
It seemed as if everyone who was even remotely connected to his lab got the news as well, for after that letter came others - most of them were of the congratulatory sort, combined with tea and dinner invitations. He stopped opening them after a few days, barely glancing at a parade of names belonging to the most well-established people of the Capital.
Fame, praise, appreciation for his talent and intellect - it was everything the Bachelor has ever wanted.
All Daniil wanted was to be left alone.

Summary
Daniil Dankovsky wiped a gloved hand across his mouth as he read through his old notes, not even bothering to check what had been wiped away. He already knew what he’d find; blood, and probably a few small ‘flower blossoms’. No need to check what he already knew, and he had been seeing the signs since his second day in this town.
