Ever since sending Sonic home, Nine has felt terrible. Overcome with guilt and barely having any sense of purpose, he's trying to prove to everyone - except himself, since he's absolutely confident - that Sonic is still alive. Cue a mysterious invitation holding his one chance to meet him again - and everyone else in his world. How can he resist?
Unfortunately, as each race passes by, nothing seems to be going right for him. Feeling distraught and empty, he somehow finds an escape from reality and "borrows" it to leave behind the pain he's been going through.
...but getting trapped in a world where rain boils was not the getaway he was exactly hoping for.
OR: Nine decides to join the races in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, uncovers the aftermath of what happened in Sonic Prime and runs off to the Boiling Isles, feeling lost. Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends catch on too late - cue a rescue mission on their end, while Nine explores a world of witches, demons and magic.

But when his home of Westside Island is attacked, he ventures out into the Compass Archipelago to investigate where some mysterious robots came from. Along the way, he picks up a kid with no parents, two tails and a bucket of smarts, and becomes the thorn in the side of a egg-shaped man.
Some things are different. Some people aren't who they are, yet. Some things never change.

Metal Sonic hasn't known freedom in ages. His code forces him to adhere to strict orders, which he has long since given up on fighting. He is the greatest weapon in Doctor Robotnik's arsenal, and he acts as such.
But when a wish is accidentally made on the seven Chaos Emeralds, these two find themselves in the other's body, leading them down two paths. Tails’ left ear flickered. He snorted, “This is how we are calling chaos users now?”
Sonic opened one eye. He gave a lopsided smile, “Why not? It portrays the message and keeps things incognito. It fits just fine!”
Tails blinked. Then blinked once more. He then shook his head. Sonic did have a point even if the name was ridiculous. Cream would have loved it though if she were to ever find out.
But they couldn’t share this yet. Not to anyone. They would have to see what to do with the A.R.K soldier first. They kinda just pull him into this mess without being sure if he wanted to. If he didn’t have Sonic’s vote that he didn’t pose a threat, Tails would have already put him in a cell despite his current fascination with his chaos powers.
The kit pinched his temple. That was too much to unpack in just one day.

Set in a dystopian era, ARK is the force monopolizing Mobius, threatening to turn it into nothing but metal.
