“There’s a list of reasons that’re way too long to go through.” His shoulders sag. “It’d be better for her if I didn’t say anything.”
“Is that what you want though?” Grian pokes his arm, frowning a little.
“…I thought it’s what I wanted. I thought I could be happy with just being her friend. But the more I get to know her, the more I just—I want to stay by her side and make her happy. She’s so wonderful, and she’s been through so many painful things. I want to be there for her and be her safe space.” Scar catches himself rambling, causing his face to turn red. “Ah—I can’t believe I just said all that out loud. Wow! That’s embarrassing…” He brings his hands to his face, hiding it.
Grian can only laugh good-naturedly. “It’s sweet, Scar. She sounds like she means a lot to you. Tell her.”
His face falls into something somber and upset, eyes gloomy as his lips curve downwards. Scar nods, staring down at his lap. “But what if it doesn’t end well? I don’t have the greatest track record either, you know. And I can’t do that to her. I can’t hurt her like that. What if I lose her?”
Everything changes.

She puts those thoughts aside for now, not wanting to spiral. Instead, she looks at Hotguy, “What about you? I’m sure you’re worrying how the city will survive without you for a few days.”
He is a bit worried, Scar’s usual watchful eyes will be in a whole different town. Granted, he’s not just going there to goof off—there’s a legitimate reason why, two technically. The first is because he’s Ariana’s bodyguard. But the second is because of the timing. The Octagon happens to be in the very town they’re heading to, meaning it’s a perfect opportunity for Scar to do some investigating. Yet even with that reasoning, Scar can’t help but feel guilt and hesitation, like he’s abandoning his responsibility.
He doesn’t need to burden her with feelings he can handle on his own just fine. So he does what he does best, and he looks at her with a reassuring smile. “They’ll be fine on their own for a couple of nights.” He shrugs, taking a bite from his bagel. “I’ll be back before they know it.”
Ariana’s newest collab brings Scar right back to where his nightmare began. Surely it’ll be fine, right?

“Don’t you think she’d understand better than anyone?” Cub offers, tilting his head. “She’s been in the limelight for years, I think Miss Griande would know a thing or two about a mask.”
And isn’t that something Scar has asked himself over and over? He’s drawn the same conclusion every time.
“It’s just—it’s not an option Cub,” Scar says, a finality and firmness to the timbre of his voice. “She doesn’t feel the same way, anyways. The only thing I can do is move on.” He follows it with a shake of his head, as if to clear the somber air swirling around them. He plasters a smile on his face next, “Man, this really brought down the mood huh? I think this calls for a movie.”
When Cub looks at him again, his brows are slightly furrowed, the slightest hint of commiseration sitting in the depths of his eyes. He looks as if he wants to argue further, not wanting to change the topics just yet. He’s been around Scar long enough that he knows when the change in masks has been made, or when there’s a silent plea to drop it. Thinking better of pressing Scar further, he relents. “Sure… a movie sounds good.”

Why I think Ariana Griande and Hotguy are dating, a much needed 🧵 (1/25)Before HG even started working for Ari, it was clear he was a fan. Remember those blurry photos of a figure in orange and teal seen at an Ariana concert from a year ago? HG basically confirmed it was him during an interview from two months ago when he said, and I quote, “I’ve been listening to Ari’s music for ages! I’m just glad I don’t have to sneak around to see her perform anymore, haha.”
