He wasn’t. He was looking at his shoes, the words going through one ear and going out the other. Through the yelling and crying, he could hear the sounds of cameras flashing and paparazzi catcalling outside. Having this conversation in a room with windows was a bad idea. He closed the curtains and looked at Margaret and Phillip, who was staring down at him with anger. The phone that Phillip held showed an article from 10 hours ago, titled ‘Manwhore of Hollywood?! Evan Buckley and his harem of women!’. The article showed a collage of paparazzi photos that had been taken at various parties and clubs, with about a dozen different women at his side. Pretty damning evidence that Evan Buckley was a ‘Manwhore’, indeed.

He never used to turn the porch light on in Los Angeles. Sometimes he would, if Chris was out with friends and coming home late, or when he was feeding that stray cat that kept coming around. Those were rare occasions though, he never turned on the light just to have it on. There was no point.
Except now, when it starts to get dark, Eddie starts feeling an itch under his skin that doesn’t go away until he flicks that switch and the space around his front door lights up. No one is coming over, Eddie isn’t going anywhere, but the light is on. Just in case.
Or, Eddie leaves Buck in Los Angeles, but he keeps the porch light on just in case.
