Summary
Dave’s been off lately. Not in the usual Strider “ha-ha-irony” way — in the worse way he thinks he’s hiding behind forced jokes and sunglasses. His friends can tell something’s wrong, and they’re determined to get past the deflection he treats like a second language.
With unsettling changes in his behavior piling up, Rose, John, Jade, and Dirk try to convince Dave that he doesn’t have to white-knuckle everything alone. Dave would rather eat his shades than talk about it, but even he can’t keep the truth bottled forever — not when the past comes knocking again.

Summary
Dave Strider and John Egbert have a bet going on - who can get the most YouTube views on a single video in a week? John decides to go for something simple, a video essay on one of his favorite movies. Dave, on the other hand, decides to commit to the totally ironic bit of becoming a YouTube idol, complete with glittery makeup and cutesy dances. He adopts the moniker of "Dame Dawn, Knight of Time-themed idol" for the bit. He's really gotta sell it if he wants to win his bet, you know?
Unfortunately for him, his career takes off in record time and he has to contend with all the trials that comes with. Conventions, concerts, interviews, the whole nine yards.
Double unfortunately for him, he has to confront how ironic it actually is that he's a full time idol — and, more importantly, full time girl — now.
Now Playing: Dame Dawn Knight of Time is a half-comedy half-heartfelt take on gender through the lens of performing both masculinity and femininity. Dave -- as the newfound idol, Dawn -- navigates both the unfamiliar world of idols and his (or her) own gender. Will he discover something new about himself, or crumble under the pressure of his idol job?

How many days had it been by now?
Easy. 648 days, 10 hours, 47 minutes, 13 seconds, 14 seconds, 15–you get it. That's how long Dave had been stuck wandering the crannies of this shit hole rock and killing time. Counting seconds. Every grating moment. Being so painfully aware of each moment is honestly grueling.
Counting every moment against his will, watching the time go by. Wandering the same dark rooms and halls, talking to the same handful of people, over and over.
Dave found it funny, how he'd gotten himself out of one isolated prison and into another. Escaped Bro’s creep lair only to get stuck on a nearly empty rock hurtling toward certain danger. Leaving broken timelines and dead versions of himself scattered across time.
All while having to maintain the same stupid schtick. Dave grew tired of his own nonsense sometimes. When he was alone and tired from keeping up the mask, the weight would hit him. The jokes and quippy remarks can only distract him for so long. Eventually it all starts to drag on him. The weight of every action, every inaction, every trauma beyond control.

“Karkat please keep Dave in control,” Rose asked, the two making a silent promise. “Talk should conspire through peseterchum and let us hope that I can bring you back,” Rose said as she started the spell. “Oh, and do not forget to give that note to the headmaster.”
