Buffy blinked the sunlight from her gaze, gripping Spike’s shoulders to steady herself. Even on the beach, he wore his big leather coat.

When Kendra thought about dying (and she made a pointed effort not to think about it) she imagined it happening a few different ways: pushing a civilian out of the way of some demon, getting overwhelmed by a hoard of vampires, maybe sacrificing herself to save Mr.Zabuto. She hoped it would be quick and relatively painless, or at the very least in service of helping others. One final act, one last deed, before she rested forever and someone else took up her duty.

Summary
Spike first appears in the episode School Hard (2x03) alongside Drusilla. They travel to Sunnydale because it is home to the Hellmouth, a source of demonic energy that attracts supernatural creatures and makes rituals easier to perform. Spike hopes to use that energy to restore Drusilla’s strength, while also seeing Buffy as an intriguing challenge: killing the Slayer would be a legendary feat among vampires. However, Drusilla reaches her first and, instead of killing Buffy, she turns her into a vampire.

The bird’s greedy beak had gobbled up all the best bits of Dru’s boy and left her with nothing but a shell that hated her right back. And she hated him for that, too.
He wasn’t supposed to hate her. That wasn’t what he had been made for. Her boy had been made for love. It was all he’d ever been good for, and that much had been true long before Drusilla drank him down and made him new. But now he wouldn’t even do that right. He only pretended.
She hated his pretending most of all.
