John Smith is nervous, in a few hours he will take part in the biggest seaborne invasion ever done, which will be known for decades, and possibly centuries to come, as "D-Day", as part of the airborne troops parachuting into Normandy in the very early morning hours of June the 6th, and will have to fight the Germans in order to reach his unit's objectives set for this day.
But currently he is still on the airfield in Upottery waiting to board his plane with the rest of the guys assigned to the same plane, getting ready for the big jump.

Summary
Being in the French Resistance wasn't what Alice Klein envisioned her life looking like. She'd wanted a husband and a flat in Paris, and maybe a cat with a pink bow who would sleep on her piano. But bullets didn't discriminate between male or female, young or old. Alice knew that better than most. As a half-German, half-French Jew, it seemed no matter where she went, she was hated. To the German army or Vichy France, she was a traitor. To any uneducated Allied soldier, her last name screamed Nazi.
When the Maquis heard of the Allies looking for connections to the French Resistance, they'd quickly offered up Alice as a translator and liaison. Whisked away from the French Alps, she arrived in the States to train as a paratrooper, knowing that failure was not an option no matter how much she disliked it.
Lucky for her, she didn’t just find barracks and training grounds in America. She found men, and in them, family to replace the one she’d lost.

Summary
Rachel Bartlett is like most women her age. She works hard to get what she wants, no matter how long and difficult it is for her to meet her end goal. It was with that can-do spirit she became the first woman to enlist in Easy Company as a combat medic, quickly winning over the officers and the other soldiers in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 101st Airborne Division.
Eugene Roe is quiet and serious. He keeps to himself and distances from his fellow soldiers for he knows the consequences of getting too close to somebody during the time of war. That changes when he is made a combat medic in Easy Company and meets Rachel, resulting in a growing attraction between the two medics.
Both try to hide their feelings for one another as the fast approaching drop into Normandy looms over their heads, however after a brief chat about how each one is feeling about the invasion, both realize they need each other more than ever, resulting in the two confessing their love for one another. Romance blossoms quickly between the two medics, but will it be enough for them to survive the war?
