“Slugging about-” Piett spluttered in mock outrage, before the rest of that sentence registered. “Wait. Celebration?”
Veers looked at him with wide eyes.“Firmus,” he said, aghast. “Don’t tell me you forgot.”
“Forgot what?” Piett squawked, desperately running through all the important dates he had memorized.
Veers gaped at him, his joking demeanor replaced by one of horror.
“Firmus. Fir. Your anniversary.”
Piett blinked at him once, twice.
“…Shit.”

Summary
In most universes, Maximilian Veers signs up for the Imperial Army. He rises through the ranks and becomes one of the foremost experts of AT-AT warfare. General Veers leads at the head of Death Squadron’s armies under Darth Vader. Piett becomes Admiral of Death Squadron. His ship is the Executor and he becomes a minor legend for surviving Vader’s wrath at Bespin.
In a lot of those same universes, the plans for the naval special ops force are never implemented and the Navy STARRs (Space, Terrain, Air, Raids and Reconnaissance) never run as much as a single mission.
This is neither of those universes.

“I can’t believe you made me jump off a building,” Piett gasps and he settles in the seat across from Veers.
Veers pulls off his evergreen helmet and settles it against his armored knee. “It wasn’t that dangerous. Undre hasn’t let me hit the ground yet.”

Brother and sister, Firmus and Rilla Piett are about to be sold as slaves at a secret underground auction at Geonosis. Unbeknownst to everyone there, this auction coincides with a rescue plan on behalf of Obi-Wan Kenobi. That rescue plan ballooned out of control since Anakin Skywalker got involved, and the galaxy was introduced to the clone troops who came in to save the day at the last minute.
It is these troops who find the auction and interrupt it, unwittingly saving the lives of the two children. And thus, the Pietts find their fate entwined with that of Commanders Fox and Wolffe as we approach the Star Wars story from yet another angle. -

Dr. Henley had thought the whole thing ridiculous. No one ever stole from him, and clearly the medical staff had nothing better to do in their already chaotic lives to waste time gossiping about a supposed "ghost" that leaves no trace except for the absence of a holobook.
But then a medical journal he hadn't even had time to read yet walked off.
It only went downhill from there.
