Mr. Fool merely raises ‘His’ hand. With a clip of ‘His’ two fingers, an overturned black top hat adorned with brilliant red feathers flickers into existence. ‘He’ extends it out.
Eagerly, the boy reaches out to take the hat only to catch sight of the potion glass nestled inside, one churning with the colors of the sunset. He lifts his head with widened eyes.
“Your name shall be Merlin Hermes—” Mr. Fool says with a soft smile, ‘His’ words branding themselves into the boy’s soul—“a magician born from a wishing well.”

Summary
So I had the hardest time choosing between several Fitzloved moments and eventually went with their reunion in “Fool’s errand”, the gay edition. I mean, it was pretty gay in the first place, but you can’t convince me Fitz didn’t actually lift the Fool off the ground. That’s how I remembered the scene before rereading it specifically for this piece, and that’s how I still choose to envision it xD Fitz just forgets to mention some details, you know how he is.
P. S. The name is a reference to Jinna’s prediction: “Yet here in your right hand, I see a love that wends its way in and out of all your many years. That faithful heart has been absent for a time, but is soon to return to you again.” -

The rumours flying around Buckkeep about Lord Golden and his servant, Tom Badgerlock have reached a new extreme and Fitz is no longer able to ignore their implications. In fact his every waking moment is plagued by an unpleasant combination of shame and heady curiosity brought on by dwelling on them. Fitz and the Fool are surprised to be invited to join the Farseers' private Winterfest celebration, with food, gifts and wine. They spend the evening in the company of the Farseer family and some long term friends, including Burrich and Lacey, drinking wine and chatting in front of the fire. Winterfest gifts from the Farseers are a pleasant but unexpected surprise.
The scene is set somewhere in the Royal Assassin era and coincides with Kettricken's first Winterfest in Buckkeep. I have not attempted to match any specific Winterfest descriptions in Royal Assassin but have kept the Winterfest context more generic. There are some other alterations to the Royal Assassin plot; for example, king Shrewd's health is better than in the book. Molly and Nighteyes are not mentioned.
