Near the end of his first summer at Camp Boomerang, Zuko received an unexpected gift from his Uncle: his mother’s phone number.
It takes over six months for him to work up the nerve to contact her, and several more before she first comes to visit him. Their shared past is messy, and full of the kind of memories that have to potential to shatter the both of them.
Against the backdrop of the Qanitt Family Reunion, with the camp mobbed with Sokka’s relatives, Zuko begins to rebuild his relationship with his mother, who he hasn’t seen since he was still wearing bandages over one eye.

Summary
Ursa goes into labor on a cold, moonless night. A storm rages outside, and the air feels alive with lightning. Her labor lasts two days, and when she looks down at her baby, her heart stops. He’s deathly pale and as silent as the grave. His eyes are terrifyingly bright, a pale yellow-green only found in lightning, and his hair is as white as ash.
Four years later, her second child is born. Her labor is just as long, the storm just as wild, and this baby is born with the same white hair and electric eyes, this time a chilling blue.
Neither of them seem human.
Half a world away and ten years later, Kya prays desperately to Tui and La with her last breath. They respond in the most unusual of ways.
In the aftermath of the raid, Katara's eyes turn pure white, and she never sleeps. She watches the stars, singing old, old songs that are only half remembered. Sokka spends more and more time out on the ocean, and swears he can talk to the sea life. It's only a mild shock when they both begin growing gills.
Half a world away from that, Toph runs away for the first time, and finds that she's much stronger than anyone gives her credit for. Much, much stronger.

5. Prevent the end of the world/Stop the Father- Fire Lord/Restore honour to the Fire Nation.6. Get Katara back.
Zuko's no stranger to unattainable goals, but if his 'so you just defected from the Fire Nation and want to save the world from your Father's reign of terror' (and win back over the love of his life) to-do list gets any longer, he might just collapse.

Summary
Aang had never had siblings before. That wasn't really a *thing* for airbenders. But Katara made him promise to take her penguin sledding, and nine-year-old Sokka vowed he'd keep him safe like he did his sister.
So yeah. Aang had siblings now, and he'd protect them with his life.

Summary
He survived two-and-a-half years as General Fong’s training dummy, months as Zhao’s prisoner, and weeks as a captive aboard the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe’s ship, all the while refusing to let his father’s cold, firelit eyes be the last he saw of the man. There was no way these children would keep him from going home.
"Yes," Zuko lied. 'I’ll help you defeat my father."
Or: After three years of imprisonment, Zuko escapes, just in time to arrive at the climax of the Invasion of Ba Sing Se. From there, he travels with the Avatar's team - first as a political prisoner and then, maybe (and indignantly), as Aang's firebending teacher.
(Zuko wonders why Agni let him suffer in the cold for so many years only to make him the Avatar's mentor. Destiny is a cruel, complicated thing. It takes him a while to figure out his.)

Summary
This was just Hakoda’s luck, on the run with three children he’d vowed to himself to take to safety—wherever that may be—and they just happened to run into the Dragon of the West.
Unsheathing the knife—his only weapon, of course he had nothing but a measly knife while facing the Dragon of the West—Hakoda stepped forward to stand between the children and the enemy. Like he should have when they’d come to the South Pole and threatened his family.
Never give up without a fight. Not that he needed the blade’s inscription to tell him that.
After escaping from the Western Air Temple, Hakoda is lost in a forest with three Earth Kingdom kids. Thirsty, tired, and struggling to cope with the effects of his prison stay, the last thing he needs is getting kidnapped by an ancient secret society.
But Iroh’s plans to have the Avatar kill the Fire Lord are outrageous, and Hakoda takes issue. Now he has to put up with his mother’s ex and a gloomy firebender while parenting three wayward children, rescuing his crew from prison, and defeating Ozai. Which would be enough to deal with even if the wounds of the past didn’t have a habit of bleeding into the present.

Summary
The burns are deep. Aang frets over them as he keeps watch, the smallest flame cupped in his palms, too small to do any damage. Zuko assures him that this–this is not all that comes from fire.
(Tries not to remember how exactly skin smells when it begins to burn, flake away.)
Or: Zuko doesn't choose Azula during the Crystal Catacombs.
Or or: His sacrifice and everything that comes after.

The first time that Sokka sees his childhood nemesis after ten years of blissful separation, he makes out with him in front of his homophobic family. Zuko's proposal- that they fake a relationship for a summer of public events on Sokka's home island to mess with his father and grandfather- is absolutely ludicrous, and it definitely won't work. Not only is Sokka straight, but he and Zuko have hated each other for as long as he can remember.
Then Sokka realizes he can use it to his own advantage as well. It's just for the summer, right?

Summary
“You’re not your family, Zuko,” Sokka says immediately, like it’s a reflex, like he genuinely believes it.
“Does it matter?” Zuko says. “In the grand scheme of things, does it really fucking matter? Does it matter to the waterbenders who were kidnapped and killed under my grandfather’s command? Does it matter to the war orphans, the war children, who have lost their families and houses and limbs to the fire of my nation’s soldiers? Does it matter to the fifteen-year-olds getting drafted for the war effort, the ones the generals of my father’s council call kindling? Does it matter to the—” Zuko cuts himself off, chest heaving, eyes burning. “Does it matter to the Air Nomads?”

Summary
In Sokka's lifetime, the Fire Nation has only raises his village once- well, now twice. And yet that doesn't keep him from feeling the effects of the ones that came before.
This raid might just be the worst, though (or maybe the second, no, third worst), because this is the raid where he looses everything. So now he's stuck on this stupid metal ship full of firebenders, one of which is an old man obsessed with tea and another of which is an exiled (and kind of attractive) prince with anger issues.
Or, Sokka is a firebender. Things are a little different because of this.
