Summary
Merlin, disappointed after his friends are once again too busy to spend time with him, receives a job from Gaius - travel to the village of Cholcate and see how the people there are faring.
Ranger John is asked to escort Merlin to his home village. Since he was going there anyway for his sister's wedding, he was pleased to do so. He wasn't expecting to stumble on a kingdom-ending conspiracy and a high-value target for the Camelot army. He just had to hope that they could deal with this and get to Cholcate on time.

Arthur does curse at that, under his breath. It echoes, pointedly, across the Council Room.

Once there was nothing left for them to do, they made their way to the Disir’s cave once more. As they arrived, Merlin started fidgeting nervously. Arthur noticed but he needed to stay focused on how to say the right thing. He planted his sword into the ground and made his way inside, Merlin following suit.
“-Arthur Pendragon. You have returned with your decision?

-Will you embrace the ways of the Old Religion, or will you seal your fate and follow the path of your father?”
The King took a deep breath, and shifted his feet. He could feel Merlin’s eyes practically burning a hole in his neck.

Arthur Pendragon had hoped to receive his Hogwarts letter after his sister, Morgana had gotten hers at eleven, so when Arthur's birthday came and went, and nothing came, he couldn't help but be disappointed in knowing that the closest he would get to magic was reading some of his sisters books she received from school.
Until Merlin came crashing into his life, and he found a new friend with magic. Except, this magic wasn't the same as his sisters. Merlin's eyes turned gold, and he needed no wand; not to mention the magic seemed to have connected itself onto Arthur for some reason. Merlin never got his letter either, so clearly something wasn't right.
As Merlin tries to learn magic by his own means, the two of them find out that there are people in the world who would like nothing more than to harness Merlin's strange magic for themselves.Series

Merlin swallows, hands curling into fists. The chains wrapped around his wrists squeeze as his muscles flex. Fresh blood leaks where the metal loops dig into his skin, running down his arms where they’re hung over his head. He shifts, trying to alleviate the pressure, but his toes just manage to scuff the ground.

Yah. It's the fic where Merlin get's kidnapped because Arthur's a prince and everyone has to deal with the repercussions.
