There are no ‘bad’ or ‘good’ people – you can either be a cutthroat or a doormat. Only some people are smart enough to acknowledge that and use it to get somewhere in the world, while others pride themselves on their oh-so-holiness and get stomped in the process. The rules of the jungle, survival of the fittest, wolves and sheep, dog eat dog and all that stuff. Only now humans have more elegant ways to screw each other over than throwing feces.
Still, maybe the only ‘good’ people are children, because they still lack the ability to understand and play by the rules of nature. Even the bratty ones are not intelligent enough for the ugliness of adulthood – yet. Children are transparent in their ways, they have no hidden motives or agendas, they can’t lure you into a false sense of trust until they find a moment to strike. In other words, they’re the exact opposite of grown-ups like Saul.
