David and his new dad have good days and bad days, but everything gets more complicated when Henry falls in love with a guy named Alex. David is really excited when he realises that Alex is the first human who truly understands him. The lovebirds travel with him around the world. Paris, Berlin, New York... the travelling beagle sees everything.

Summary
Something is different about Henry.
David would know, they have been best friends for all 47 years of his life—he thinks that’s seven in “human years,” at least he definitely remembers almost ingesting a candle that was that shape. He has become the leading expert on Henry’s tempers, just by smell alone. He has built a catalog of them over the years, so familiar with them that he can name Henry’s mood within seconds.
The scent he carries now is something different, and his behavior is all wrong, too. He wonders how Alex has not noticed yet? No matter, detective David the Beagle is on the case.

Henry’s scent subtly changes and David spirals in an attempt to find out what’s wrong. Cue: overprotectiveness, affection, and Alex as collateral damage.

David isn’t at home.
He keeps his eyes closed and pretends to still be asleep while he tries to figure out where he is. He knows His Henry took him somewhere because of the food laced with the hateful thing that makes him sleepy and the suitcases and his travel carrier. But it doesn’t smell like furniture polish and mothballs like when they go to Sandyham or Buckyham. (Perhaps most upsetting about those places is the lack of ham, despite the names. Or the fact that His Henry retreats into himself, left with nothing but a shell until they get home and David can burrow into His Henry’s chest again.) (But seriously, the dearth of ham is criminal).
