Summary
Buck hadn’t set foot in Oahu in over 10 years, but as he steps off the charter boat and feels the sun on his skin and smells the salt from the water in the air- he doesn’t know why he even left. Stepping onto the platform, duffel slung low on one shoulder, he takes a moment to just take in his surroundings. The sun was bright and burning, yet too soft. Nothing could ever compare to the burning feeling in his leg as the ladder truck was lifted off of it. Nothing here would ever hit as hard as Los Angeles.
Not after the bombing.
Not after Eddie’s fist connected with his jaw and the silence and emptiness that followed, draping over him like a curtain- or more accurately a tsunami slamming him into the concrete. Fast, unexpected, and oh- so harsh.
And so he left.
Packed everything he needed and sold the rest. Left detailed instructions to Maddie for her to sell the loft and for nostalgia's sake an L.A. postcard telling her he loved her and a number of an old friend in case of emergencies. He knew she would understand- as a Buckley, when things get bad you pack up and start over.
Buck wasn’t running, not really.
He just needed to start over.

Summary
When Buck starts to feel like he doesn't have anywhere he belongs, Ravi lets him move in against his better judgment. There's nothing to worry about though because it's just temporary...up until it isn't. What have they managed to get themselves into?
The answer isn't all that simple, as there's two sides to every story.
---
A childhood of hospitals and doctors made Ravi very averse to wanting things. At a very young age, he had to learn to love and appreciate what he has. What is tangible and in front of him. There's no point in wanting or wishing because tomorrow's never promised. Why waste precious time and energy on fruitless wants, when that effort could go towards appreciating what he has? What he has at the moment, what is tangible, is his friendship with Buck. That is real and happening right now, in the present. There is no reason to even think about, to entertain the mere idea of something more. Ravi is perfectly happy with what he has. There's no other choice.

Summary
“What I had with Eddie– it wasn’t love, at least not on my part. I– I was just trying to fill that emptiness you left in my life when you walked out of the door of my loft, Tommy.” He tries his best not to sob when Tommy lovingly wipes away the tear that has rolled down his cheek without him even noticing. “What I did to him was cruel and he didn’t deserve it but I– I was so miserable when I lost you, Tommy. Not a day went by when I didn’t miss you.”
“I missed you every day too, sweetheart. Every single day I regretted breaking up with you that night. I prayed that one day I’d get a chance to fix what I broke but then I heard about your engagement with Eddie and I thought that it was too late.”
“It wasn’t. It isn’t.” Buck leans in to press one more small kiss against Tommy’s lips. “I don’t want anyone else. It’s you, Tommy, no one else. It has always been you.”
(or: Buck is getting married to his best friend in a couple of months. He hasn't really thought about his ex-boyfriend for two years. Then for a moment he thinks that Tommy died in front of him and he can't hide the truth anymore.)

Summary
Before joining the 118 Buck was a ranch hand in Texas, where he met Eddie.
Years later after they have both parted ways Eddie comes to LA and joins the 118 as a firefighter. Now both, Buck and Eddie are faced with the overwhelming rush of memories and unresolved feelings they both had for one another. There’s a familiarity in Eddie's smile, in the way Buck’s heart races at the sight of him. Everything about Eddie feels both new and achingly old, a reminder of a love they never fully explored and a history they’ve tried to bury.
As they navigate their awkward, charged new dynamic at work, Buck and Eddie are forced to confront the ghosts of their past. They might be coworkers now, but the unspoken tension between them suggests they’ve never truly been strangers at all. Can they rebuild what was left behind, or will their past make it impossible to move forward?

Summary
In a West Hollywood Bar, Buck, Kim, Marisol and Ana discuss one Eddie Diaz - who is a terrible friend and worse partner.
“Eddie really cheated on me,” Buck says, almost to himself. He pauses, searching their faces for some kind of understanding. “I never thought he'd—” The words fail him.
“Welcome to the club,” Kim cuts in, her tone laced with sarcasm and bitterness. She takes a swig of her beer. “He used me too. To process his feelings about his dead wife. I thought we had something real, but I was just… a tool. He got what he needed and then tossed me aside like I was nothing. Didn’t even get a text message after it was over.”
Across the table, Marisol scoffs under her breath.
There is no Buddie reunification here, so don't read if you're looking for a happy Buddie.

Summary
As they’re packing up their gear from the call Eddie looks over to Buck who’s standing on the far side of the engine talking to Hen, he watches him laugh at something she says and watches as the sound bubbles from his stomach to his chest. He smiles to himself remembering one night that summer, in Evan’s Jeep when Eddie said something that made him spit his drink all over the dashboard. They laughed for hours that night, as they wiped down the slick plastic with take-out napkins. He wonders if now, with all the baggage they have tied to their feet, if it’ll ever feel like that again.

Buck and Eddie had a summer fling in high school and they both end up at the 118. And they make up for lost time.
