But there just isn't a cure for the sleep deprivation because more so than his mind, Sam's own soul is what's eating him away from the inside. That's just what happens when you throw a soul into Lucifer's dog bowl.

He'd believed it so strongly, that whatever he gave into down there would never make it to the surface, and if it didn't make it to the surface, it wouldn't actually be real. He had bet on the fact that he'd never have to look Dean in the eyes again, never have to fall in love again, be touched again, have sex with someone he actually liked again.
