A few months ago, Neil would have given up. If his father had taken everything he cared about from him, he would have gone to his father's study and unlocked that drawer and taken out the gun. But he was taught by John Keating for almost an entire term, and if there's one thing he learned, it's Carpe Diem - seize the day. LIVE the day.
Neil doesn't give up, because you can't seize the day when you're dead, and sometimes rash decisions are the best decisions. He's not going to let his father take everything he cares about away, not acting, not the poets, and so Neil grabs everything that might be of use and steals his father's car. But back at Welton, he discovers that not only does everyone think he's dead, but Todd - soft, innocent, kind, oblivious Todd, who has no clue what he means to Neil - is hurt - and he won't wake up.

The pattern has been set for millenia: Charlie will be stuck on a question, thus he would stop focusing; then as he realizes he has to answer the question, he would fight the urge to ask Cameron - no, no, he cannot accept help from him, he might as well laugh in his face!- seeing that he will not get the answer, he will flip through his textbook (but, as someone who cannot figure out how a textbook is organized, will flip through calculus instead). The sharp sounds of flipping pages rapidly will snap the ginger out of focus; causing him to turn around, with a frown on his face, and snap:
“What is it now, asshole?”
.
For a moment the brunet will thank God, and will turn around with a fake confused expression, and ask:“I'm sorry, Cammy, but do the angles inside of a triangle add up to 360 degrees?”

Basically, Charlie is the yearning final boss who cannot get enough of Richard's attention, and Richard wants to explode.
