Summary
“There anything else you wanna do to celebrate, Mohan?”
“The night is young! You are young, Mohan,” Jack says, bumping her with his shoulder. “Could go bar hopping? Though that might actually send Robby for a loop.” He chuckles.
Her martinis have hit her. Hard. She’s woefully lightweight; it takes nothing for her to feel tipsy. The cigarette smoke on her tongue tastes acrid, it adds to her mild discomfort. She breathes in another drag, flicks the ash off to the side. Samira feels a little dizzy, but invincible.

Jack, Samira, and Robby go to a medical conference.

Samira,
We are all so incredibly proud of you and cannot wait to hear all about the amazing work you do at UCLA. We can only hope that California doesn’t charm you too much – but no matter what, you’ll always have a family here in Pittsburgh. Hope you know how much you will be missed around here. Please stay in touch and send pictures of the beaches and burritos often.
All the best wishes,
Robby & the Pitt Crew-

Summary
Jack Abbot was very clearly not the kind of guy that Samira Mohan was into.
Which was fine. There was a whole laundry list of reasons that women didn’t flock to Jack Abbot. He was too short: women expected alphas to be taller. He was approaching fifty. He had a job he was completely dedicated to that did not lend itself to a normal sleeping cycle— or a normal life, for that matter. He had one factory-model leg and one titanium and carbon fiber aftermarket fix for a right-side BKA he’d undergone in Germany. He was chock-full of C-PTSD and anxiety and depression and maladaptive coping mechanisms that ten years of therapy had finally put a slight dent in. He had a wife named Maggie who’d been dead for almost seven years. And he hadn’t had sex in those seven years, apart from the handful of emergency DRIs he’d been able to help with here at the Pitt.
----------
Abbot is the Pitt's emergency contact for designation-related incidents.
Mohan doesn't quite know how she feels about that.
Until, one day, she finds that she needs him. -

Summary
“What am I supposed to do for 10 days?” She looks genuinely dumbfounded.
“I don’t know, read a book, get on a plane, go to Alaska. Whatever you want, as long as it happens at least 500 yards away from this hospital. I mean it, Samira.”
She presses her lips together into a thin line. He shakes his head in disbelief.
“You’re worse than Abbot, you know?”
“What do you mean?”
“He threw a temper tantrum about the sabbatical—”
“You’re sending him on vacation, too?”

or, Samira (begrudgingly) takes 10 days off. Jack's there, too.

Summary
It had been more common for Dr Jack Abbot to share his Night shifts with one Dr Mohan, a fact that had made Jack both nervous and excited. Which was ridiculous, considering that he was not only a grown man but had done far more nerve racking things on a daily basis than flirting with Samira Mohan.
Yet here he was, like a nervous schoolboy,
Part of him knew that Samira’s allure was the fact she had been untouchable. A brilliant, gorgeous mind that Jack had the luxury of conferring with on cases. And then of course he had got to know the woman behind all those research papers he had shared with her. Of course she had to be empathetic and caring. Strong willed enough to hold her own against not only her superiors but the world.
And just because it had been a while didn’t mean that Jack had forgotten how to date. How to flirt.
He started simple; coffee, just coffee.
Which is possibly why Samira doesn’t think too much of it when Jack appears in the doorway of the office, ready to save her from the paperwork hell that had kept her two hours post shift.

Mary Claire Lee Abbot knew she was dying. It was a foregone conclusion. She had already beat cancer twice but this time, it was in her pancreas. She was going to leave her poor Jackie, Robby, and everyone else at The Pitt.
Even though she had to go, Mary Claire was a good Southern woman and there was nothing she wasn’t better at than meddling. So there were five letters, all given to Dana to be given to the recipient at the right time.
Mary Claire had her happily-ever-after with Jackie but she was going to make sure her love had a second one. And okay… the others too.

Summary
"Dana said you were sick." He states. Samira blinks molasses slow, and some part of her wonders if this is the flu and not a sinus infection. She must be hallucinating, because Dr. Abbot is wearing glasses that she has never, ever, seen before. If she had, the dreams she's been trying to ignore for a year would have made them a feature. They're rectangle-framed, the black color of plastic stark against his salt-and-pepper curls. An explicable breath of fondness bubbles up in her throat, and she has to slow it before it escapes.
"You're wearing glasses." Definitely the flu.

Summary
Things are different after The Shift from Hell. Dr. Samira Mohan is seeing Dr. Jack Abbot in a new light. Donating blood while saving lives is hot, okay? In hindsight, there’s always been something lingering like an undercurrent through their email exchanges and professional interactions. The question is, is he staring at her like that because he likes her or because he’s like that with everyone? He does love to stare at people.
In which Samira Mohan would like to create a life for herself outside the hospital, including newfound friendships, found family, and most of all, Jack Abbot.
*
Or alternatively in which Samira Mohan views Dr. Robby as a father figure (literal, not George Michael) and she’s trying to figure out how to tell him she’s dating one of his oldest friends, while keeping to herself that he’s one of the last to know.
