Seonghwa considered himself lucky.
It was a belief he developed later in life, when it became clear to him that his existence was going to be hard and miserable no matter what he did. He comforted himself with it many times over the years, just to make his torment a tiny bit more bearable.
To him, it was pure luck that the royal family of Samhan decided to keep him, even after what happened to Queen Inhyeon. He used to read about her in history books in the old, dingy palace library, way back when he was still allowed to live there.
He liked the stories about her the most. He wondered whether she'd be just as kind to him, if she ever allowed him in her presence again.
