Follow-up to Dear Spock and Dear James. The five year mission is a go. Jim is trying to figure out how to be Spock’s first officer and husband while dealing with the lasting consequences of nearly dying. Spock tries to figure out how to give Jim what he needs while balancing his responsibilities as captain. Sulu is trying to figure out how to be a good dad to Demora and partner to Ben light years from both. Leonard and Nyota are trying to figure out how to raise a preteen in space with enough baggage to fill the ship. No one knows quite what they're doing. However, they are the best crew in Starfleet, which essentially means they’ll just make it up as they go. A collection of letters, emails and other written correspondence from the first year of Enterprise’s five-year mission.

Kirk are irregular, so meeting an alternate universe where Spock is the Captain and *someone* on that ice rock of a shitshow had the smart idea to use the Starfleet sanctioned Starfleet base to contact Starfleet. Neat.

Having survived the Nexus, and with Spock Prime having fallen ill at an inopportune moment, Kirk Prime led the mission to save Romulus instead. Unfortunately, Kirk was not any more successful than Spock was. And due to his failure, when transported back in time, Nero attacked Earth first.
Essentially, a role-reversal rewrite of the second and third act of Star Trek (2009), in which Kirk Prime takes the role of Spock Prime, Earth and Vulcan switch places, and Spock and Kirk switch places.

He had left with the Vians willingly, hoping to secure his people’s future. Spock felt Jim’s fear of the unknown and his courage. He also discovered, quite to his surprise, that his mind was perfectly compatible with this handsome stranger. For the first time in his life, Spock of Vulcan felt as if he were home. As he began to sink deeper into the meld, Spock realized he must leave immediately, or risk bonding with this remarkable being.
