Summary
Everyone thinks Dazai is the chaotic one (which he is) in his partnership with Chuuya, but the truth is far more complicated. Over the course of several incidents—Chuuya drunkenly making out with a stranger, a brutal alley fight with his brother Verlaine, and a mission in Vladivostok where Chuuya turns a quiet operation into a fiery massacre—Dazai quietly cleans up after him, covering mistakes, erasing evidence, and smoothing over chaos. Yet, once, he chooses not to intervene, letting Chuuya’s destruction unfold unchecked, simply observing the raw, untamed power he wields. Through it all, Dazai sees the truth: Chuuya’s madness is beautiful, terrifying, and utterly his own, and Dazai’s role isn’t to stop it, only to manage it—or occasionally, just watch it burn.
