The captain wondered for a second what her laughter sounded like though he doubted he would ever get the chance to hear it. That wasn’t why he was sent here anyway.

His hand comes up against her shoulder again, warning her not to move forward as she tries to take another step. His tone is harsh, warning. Scolding. She knew this was dangerous - but wasn't this the point of his training? To be able to fight against machines like this, to protect? It wasn't as if she hadn't been alone before, either. Exploring a metal ruin out of reach of her father figure, where she'd picked up the device that would now help save the young boy's life. Training all her life to survive in the wilds, even if it had only been a few short years. She looks back to him, weighing her choices and the cons of each.
Stubbornness was in her veins, though, and no amount of his stern tone would stop her.
She pulls away from him, sprinting forward. His hand tries to reach and grab her again but only catches her bow, causing her to stumble and quickly slide down the ledge they’d perched atop. The immediate panic in his voice is clear as he calls her name, but there was no stopping her downward momentum. Even more than him, though, her attention as she tumbles downward was on a nearby noise. Mechanical, machine. A watcher, requiring him to pull backwards and hide - else he reveals himself, and her.

A Nil-centric, mostly canon compliant-ish exploration of our favorite Carja murder hobo, with a backstory growing up as a child and a young man in the Sundom before going off to war during the time of the Mad King Jiran. This will follow Nil through his time in the Forbidden West and the Liberation of Meridian all the way through meeting up with Aloy and the Battle of the Alight. Very slow burn Nil/Aloy fic with a happy ending...for now!
Very minor spoilers, lore, and characters from Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Call of the Mountain are used to tell his story, but are not necessary to have played before reading

The majority of her memory is gone as a side effect from the cryo, including the experiments performed on her by Ted Faro. Being the only Old One alive on the planet, Aloy convinces her to join her journey to learn more about the past while Romania does so to remember her past. Together the two unlock mysteries of the past, of HADES, the future and perhaps of each other.

Fashav, who shouldn't have survived the Embassy but somehow did because of something Aloy did, is tasked by his cousin Sun-king Avad with a pilgrimage. He shall walk in the footsteps of the Savior of Meridian and document what he can learn of her, to publish as a scroll for anyone who should wish to read it. He is joined by Marshals Chekkatah and Sentekka, who want to atone for the disrespect they showed her and honor the mercy they received by her hand and from her will, as well as many others who were touched by her in some way.
(Or, the author is replaying Horizon: Zero Dawn on her new PS5 and can't help but want to tie it in somehow.)
