Summary
Rhodo Poplar never believed she would survive when her name was drawn for the 67th Hunger Games. Sure she could reach the highest branches in the orchard, make those around her laugh even on the worst of days, and always drew attention because her looks didn't quite fit in. But none of those were things that got you out of the arena. Knowing how to survive and being willing to kill were what made the odds in your favor, and Rhodo failed at both of those. But luckily for her, she didn't understand the true way the games worked. What she saw as gangly, the Capitol saw as modelesque. Her ill-timed jokes were now charming, and her hushed away heritage considered exotic. She was wanted. She was desired. She was a commodity. And she won her games. But as all victors find out, the games don't end once you exit the arena. You just become a new piece on a different board. One that puts more lives on the line, causes more sleepless nights, and turns you into a person you start to not recognize in the mirror. Rhodo Poplar may have survived, but she was still surviving.
