After their horses are stolen, Rand and Mat continue their journey to Tar Valon on foot as their supplies, funds, and food dwindle. Rand worries some more.

“Think she’s a Darkfriend like Dana?” Mat blessedly kept his voice down, but Rand couldn’t help the tired sigh that escaped him. He looked down at his palm to the coins the server had given him back and found three copper pennies rather than two. Either she actually was horrible at simple math or she thought a single copper might mean the difference between life and death for them. The tragic part was, there was decent chance she was right.
“Doubt it,” Rand replied, keeping his voice down as well. “She’s probably just a good person moved to charity by how awful we look.”Series
