Papyrus shrugged it off, knowing Sans was probably at Grillby's, eating that disgusting, greasy food again. He was probably safe, drinking ketchup, telling puns and stories...
But Papyrus had a grim feeling that was not the case.

Summary
While Aneira didn't necessarily believe monsters existed, she did find the fact that everyone and their dog still did might mean something. Her childhood town of Beddgelert believed in monsters trapped under the mountains near their home that would need a seventh soul now to break out and destroy lands.
Aneira also knew that she needed to figure out what happened to the kid she was friends with who went missing. Which was how she found herself having fallen (probably) hundreds of meters below a mountain inside a cave system. Was she stupid for leaving without telling people where she was going, definitely, but, to be fair, she didn't expect to fall; she couldn't even see the hole.
Injured and wanting to go home, Aneira braves through the underground cave systems, finding MONSTERS both friendly and foes, learning about what happened to all the previous (children) HUMANS that fell.
tldr: Aneira falls instead of Frisk, is injured and is too stubborn not to use this chance to find out what happened to a friend (definitely dead by now, but she still wants to confirm), the Undertale cast feels like something is different, but not what. They also live in Wales here because why not?

Fall cleaning was Gaster’s least favorite time of year. Don’t get them wrong, they absolutely loved fall, from the holidays and decorations to the various seasonal treats, it was by far their favorite time of year.
Except this. See, it wasn’t the cleaning itself that was the issue, she actually rather loved cleaning, but rather a specific stack of boxes in the back of the attic she always managed to stumble upon. It didn't matter where they were trying to go, what they were getting, or even where they were facing, it was always there. It seemed to haunt her, always sitting in the back of her mind. It wasn’t even like there was something awful in those boxes. They were actually incredible things. Things most people could only dream of obtaining, things that would make anyone else feel like they were on top of the world.

After thousands of years, monsters are finally free!
However…only Frisk is realizing what “free” might really mean, and now she’s afraid that the world she led them into might be so far gone that it could kill monster-kind.
How could she explain to the people who had put all their faith in the surface what a nuclear bomb was? How could she tell them all she’d already given up, once, before she’d ever begun claiming there was hope?
Now she’s scrambling to protect them while violence begins to escalate and whispers of “the third” are beginning to circulate. But Asriel is still back there, and Frisk refuses to leave him behind. Besides, she still has questions to answer. Why was the Underground like a twisted mess of black tendrils that all wad up in some central dark mass? Sans calls it an anomaly in time-space. Frisk thinks it’s more like a pane of glass, struck from the center.
All she knows for sure is, to give monsters a safe world to live in, to let humanity finally have some peace, she’ll take the world as she knows it and tear it apart with her own hands, even if it means destroying herself along the way and never finding home.

It was bright. Too bright, what had just happened? Flickers of memories passed through Sans’s mind in a whirl. “Doctor Gaster!” He heard a faint scream. It was muffled under his own screaming of his mind.
