Summary
Louis is playing a very dangerous game right now, he knows. He likely should not have brought Lestat back, not so soon. It is reckless, and most surely unwise, yet Louis can’t bring himself to regret it.
He meant it, when he said he was a companion enough for himself right now. It’s a realization he should have come to much sooner than he did, but he had made it there, eventually.
This did not mean he was jumping head-first into another disastrous romance with Lestat. That he was scrambling for company after parting with Armand, or that he intended to do anything with Lestat other than offer simple comforts.
They had been best friends, once upon a time. Maybe Louis could settle with that, precarious as it was.
Lestat needed him, and Louis had spent fruitless decades trying to convince himself that he did not need him in return.
(Or, Louis and Lestat try to start over. To varying degrees of success.)
