Stark opened his mouth, but Bucky found himself blurting out, “You don’t have to do this. I shouldn’t be here.”
Stark’s grin froze, then his lips sealed shut and he looked away. There was a beat of silence, then he turned to Steve and said, “Like I said, Steve, he’s welcome to stay as long as he’d like. You can give him the tour, right? There’s something I've gotta get back to in the lab…”
And with that he was gone.
Tony gives Bucky the cold shoulder.

Phil always thought working at a shelter would give him a lot of heartwarming stories about people finding their newest family member. That he'd get to hang pictures on the wall of little kids with big smiles and small puppies.
Instead, it's mostly wrestling dogs into baths and getting pissed on by angry cats, and doing vibe checks of everyone who walks in. He’s had enough dogs coming in from fighting rings at this point that he doesn’t want to adopt one out into that life on accident. He’s had a few people who sent up enough red flags that he refused an adoption, and he expects there will be more.
Or: Phil is surprised when Techno wants a tiny kitten, and definitely doesn't intend to fall in love with him over it.
