    After reading Hid Dark Materials years ago and recently watching the HBO/BBC tv adaptation I have once again fallen in love with this universe and story - specifically the relationship and dynamics of Mrs C, Lord Asriel and Lyra. This is my take on the story we already know and love. All rights are Phillip Pullmans. More Masriel, more tension, more lust, more interactions between Mrs C and Lyra. Lots of mentions of others, in this story Edward Coulter is still very much alive. I have so far about 10000 words and don't see the end in sight yet!

    When the falling feeling escaped Mrs. Coulter's body, she thought she was finally dead, so she could rest in peace with her lover and dream endlessly of a dark-eyed girl. But that's not what happened when she felt the ground under her body, without her lover by her side and with an overwhelming desire to find her daughter.

    Comprehension entered Lyra's gaze now as she glanced from Mrs. Coulter to the monkey to the portal and then back again. Pan fluttered back down to the tip of her shoulder, leering over at Mrs. Coulter, too.

    "I suppose there's no way to avoid it," Mrs. Coulter said after a few beats, aware of the Magisterial forces inching closer and closer. "We'll have to go through."

    What if Mrs. Coulter had seen Lyra on the mountain in Svalbard, and what if Lyra had been too tired to fight?

    A story of Mrs. Coulter and Lyra sticking together through the events of The Subtle Knife, in which Mrs. Coulter wants to be better.
