When Constantine was in Gotham on a personal errand, he comes across a kid stealing the wheels off the Batmobile. Naturally, because this was the funniest thing he'd ever seen, he decided to help the pipsqueak, completely unaware of the chain of events he was setting in motion by doing so.

Summary
A blind man and a mute man meet in a church. Somehow, they make the friendship work.
Jason's ultimatum ends in the way he least expected it: with a batarang to the neck courtesy of Batman, and his murderer laughing as he bled out. Even though he survived, the damage was done. Mute, he decided to take his leave and wound up in Hell's Kitchen, New York.
Enter Matt Murdock; blind lawyer by day and the vigilante known as Daredevil by night. Some would say his desire to help others would be what would get him killed one day, and his track record did back up that sentiment. However, that doesn't stop him from befriending a broken but kindred spirit.

Having learned the truth about their world and the Paintress, he wants nothing more than to catch up to the rest of his expedition and warn them before they can inadvertently wipe out their own people, and the fact that he has just suffered a couple of technically-fatal injuies is not going to stop him.

Jason wakes up gasping, lungs full of air that smells like swamp water and gunpowder, dirt caked under his fingernails like he’d been digging. Some mornings his boots are wet. Once, there’s mud on the floorboards.And lately… he’s been hearing the dead.
Not all the time. Not like a chorus. Just—voices where they shouldn’t be. A woman humming by a broken gravestone in Crime Alley. A soldier reciting scripture in a trench that hasn’t existed in seventy years. Names whispered like prayers.
One night, the dead don’t just whisper. They plead.Jason isn’t stupid. When you wake up with swamp mud under your nails and ghosts don’t shut up, you call the one idiot who might know what to do. John Constantine looks Jason up and down, lights a cigarette, and mutters, He doesn’t ask how Jason’s doing. He doesn’t lecture about the cost of messing with the border between living and dead. He just gathers grimoires, bottle of whiskey, two lighters, one gun (that Jason laughs at), and they hit the road.
