“Hey, Remus?” asks Thomas, because it’s obvious they’re both so, so tired.
“Yeah?”
“What is it you even want out of this anyway?”
Remus stiffens and doesn’t answer, grin still plastered on his face.
“Because at this point you’re just going through a list of weird things in your head and acting them out to try and make me flinch, and what’s even the point? I don’t see it.” Thomas rubs a hand across his eyes and sighs. “It’s just, I’m sure there are better ways of doing whatever you’re trying to-”
They’re so, so close together that he can see the exact moment pinprick tears start gathering in Remus’s eyes.
He pauses.
“You okay there, buddy?”

Summary
