Summary
Clarke Griffin is a Soul Keeper – which is really just a fancy word for someone who helps souls pass from this world to whatever’s next when people die. She’s been doing it for a century and a half by now and she likes it. She’s gotten to see a lot of the world and made some amazing friends along the way. All in all, it’s been a pretty good life.
She’s also learned that getting involved with Norms – people who aren’t Soul Keepers and who are going to (grow old and) die at some point, unlike her – is not a good idea, despite what Raven keeps telling her.
So when a stranger pulls her out of the way of an oncoming cab on a New York street and it feels like time stops and lightning strikes all at once when she meets his eyes, she quickly writes it off. He’s not a Keeper, so he’s off limits.
But then they run into each other again two days later, and she starts to waver… until she sees his Number – 268, meaning he has less than nine months to live.
She makes up her mind to stay away from him, despite the feelings that have already started growing inside her.

“I need a place to live.” He reiterates. “And something non-shitty on my budget is impossible. This place is... Perfect, it’s close to work, to school, to... Everything. So obviously, I can’t afford to pay you rent.” Bellamy scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. “What I can afford is helping you make your life easier. So you get me.” The way he says it obviously makes it clear how dire the situation is and how he thinks she’s definitely getting the short end of the stick here.
“I get you?” She presses further, because she’s not sure what that entails. “What does that mean?”
“Whatever the hell you want.” He adds and the way the gaze in his brown eyes grows heavier at the added information, she knows he definitely doesn’t mean only cooking her meals.
Bellamy gets renovicted because of the pandemic and turns to his ex-girlfriend and current best friend Clarke Griffin for a place to live, and offers to take care of her in exchange.
PSA: The daddy kink in this fic is mild, and will be for as far as I can see, mostly kept to undertones, but it exists. It's not vital to the plot, and there will be a content warning before every smutty chapter with what it contains. Skip chapters freely.
