Summary
While Merlin knew Camelot was one of the worst kingdoms to be a magic user, he couldn’t refuse his mother. But Merlin was a clumsy idiot.
So, after a horrible day where he fought the prince, met a dragon and finally was caught using magic to save the life of his uncle, Merlin found himself in the pyre. On his first day.
But another thing about Camelot was also true.
This other tradition was almost a joke. The foot-of-the-gallows marriage.
When presented, it was carried out until the end, treated as something serious. The man being executed would be saved by marrying the woman who asked for his hand even before he could descend from the gallows. His crimes would be pardoned as long as he continued to be married to her, and they would have the opportunity to begin a new life in a blank slate.
But it has never occurred when the crime was considered serious, so no one had to put the tradition in a balance against the law.
So, when the executioner lit the torch and the prince shouted, “Stop the execution! I’ll marry him.” no one knew what to do.

Summary
The tale restarts to the point where Arthur and Merlin have yet to cross paths. Arthur dreamt of the circumstances which led to his death. Upon waking up, he recollected much of the sequence of events in his dream. However, some of people's faces and details were blurry. As the story unfolds, Arthur will realize it was a premonition, not a random nightmare. He will be forced to confront the contradictions of his foundational beliefs, magic and his father. If he wanted to live, he had to take it to his hands and change the course of events of his fate.
