The invisible shoulder nudges him, and Mike wishes he'd taken the piece of paper to read what Will would've actually said, and then misses, more generally, Will's voice. His spoken word. Which is unfair - Mike's lucky he gets even this much, the cool brush on his arm, the creaks of his weight on the floorboards, the gentle drum of his fingers. Reminders. Will, inasmuch as he can be, is here, even if it will never feel like enough.
Sometimes — he never tells anyone this — he shuts his eyes, tells himself that Will is alive, and sitting there, next to him, and the moment he tilted his head, they'd be face to face.
He doesn't like opening his eyes, after that.
Will is a ghost. Mike is haunted.

The way this fic explores Mike's sexuality and their relationship in an alternative universe is great. I love how the characters feel so in character even if there's clearly a time difference between the two.
Was great, a must read.

You cannot hide those things from me. Do you not question what I showed you? Why are your only fears William Byers and yourself?"
or, the vol. 2 fix-it where: the party fights vecna together, mike gets vecna'd and Discovers Feelings, no one dies, and byler actually get to have that long overdue conversation.

Mike’s voice made Will jump as he returned to the room, the latter turning to face him, who was now clean and wearing pyjamas, but holding another set in his hands.
“I- I figured all your clothes would be back in California, so you can wear mine… if you want? Feel free to have a shower too. It’s been a while since you’ve been able to have one.”
(Or: Will Byers stays at Mike Wheeler's house after returning to Hawkins, and needs some clothes and a bed... why not share with the boy you've been in love with for years?)

Will thinks about Mike in the back of Argyle’s van. About the jut of his cheekbone, the glimmer in his eye. The curve of his lips. Still, even through all that—hiding something. Just like Jonathan said. A beautiful mystery, wrapped up in one of the most complicated packages Will’s ever seen. “Yeah,” he murmurs, resting his chin in his palm. “Yeah, I get it.”
“Wheelers, huh?” Jonathan murmurs, with a slight smile. “Got some kinda spell over us, man.”
“God, tell me about it,” Will groans.

Simply wow. Had me giggling and kicking my feet honestly. A display of extreme skill in writing. Everything was pretty much perfect, you know a fic is good when the only problem you see is that it's too short.
