”Liam?” I shriek, wriggling in Xaden’s arms. He doesn’t put me down, just strides through the door past Brennan.
”Hey, Vi,” he says. “Hi, Xaden.” He’s sitting on the edge of the bed. Alive. Awake. All the things we were told he probably would never be, when he didn’t wake up before we left for Basgiath on the way to graduation. Pale and thin, with sunken eye sockets and sharp cheekbones, but his smile still shows his dimples and his eyes are the same beautiful blue. Gods, I missed him.
“That’s what I was going to tell you,” Brennan says. Liam gets up very slowly and staggers over to us, Xaden’s shadows wrapping around him to keep him from falling as he stumbles. “He woke up yesterday, yelling about you being tortured and how Xaden had finally come to get you out.”
