In this story, Bruno’s vision stirred something no one knew was there: A dark creature the magic of the miracle was created to defend against to protect the Madrigals. Bruno names it Heraldo, and it seems to have identified Mirabel as the key to determining the Encanto’s fate, but Bruno refuses to let this curse hurt his family. When Heraldo tries to take Mirabel as a prisoner, Bruno doesn’t think twice before letting Heraldo take him in her place.
10 years later Bruno is still being held inside the walls of his own home, in constant pain from Heraldo’s power and broken hearted from being separated from his family. Oh, and Heraldo has forced him to be selectively mute and even gone so far as to line the passageways with dark magic so even Dolores can’t hear him. His only companions are his rats and Casita, who tries as hard as Casita can to keep him alive. When the first full moon arrives, Bruno is met by the beast within. Ten years later, Mirabel finds her uncle unexpectedly, asking him for help when the house starts to crumble each day. After discovering his curse, Mirabel promises to help her uncle find the cure and restore his gift to see the future before it’s too late, but finding the cure won’t be easy and secrets are hard to keep. Not everyone in the village OR the family will be accepting of this strange beast. Mirabel will have to protect her uncle from misunderstanding and cure him before she loses a once lost family member. For good.

But with a family matriarch who really distrusts him and his visions happening more than ever, that might be easier said than done.
When a stranger somehow finds his way into the magical sanctuary of the Encanto, Alma Madrigal knows this is another sign that the magic is fading, leaving her family at the mercy of the dangers of the outside world, the world that has already taken her husband and her baby son. She knows her family's only hope is for him to leave without learning about the Miracle. But with a family that can't seem to remember that he's a danger and a Casita that doesn't want him to leave, that might be easier said than done.
