Bio

A transposable element (also known as a transposon or "jumping gene") is a DNA sequence that can move from place to place within an organism's genome. Biologists have adapted transposable elements to use as tools for manipulating the genomes of experimental organisms. This seems like a good metaphor for transformative works, or at least it did at the time I came up with the pseudonym. It's like we're all jumping around in the genome of a story, sometimes changing the expression and interaction of the story's genes, or inserting new DNA into stories, or moving old DNA into new places where it functions differently, or horizontally transferring DNA from one story to another, or discovering genes that nobody ever even knew were in the story in the first place! Or something like that.
