“What is this?” she asked. Her irritation with him mounted even further as she pulled at the string which would now link her forever with the man she just emphatically demanded leave her alone.
“I’m sure you can look up what this is in a bloody book.” Draco’s skin crawled at the thought of explaining their newfound and horrendously ironic predicament aloud.
This time, he was the one to storm out of the library. And this time, the string let him leave her behind, quickly unravelling to accommodate their growing distance with each of his steps. Later that night, as he lay awake restlessly in his bed, Draco couldn’t help himself from toying with the thread tied permanently around his finger, connecting him to his infuriating, sanctimonious, and completely-sodding-wrong-for-him soulmate.
